Synopsis:
1968, Southern California-
Mike is a brilliant, suicidal nuclear plant
manager devastated by the loss of his wife, who leaves
him and is then killed partying with her new boyfriend.
The day of Mike's planned suicide, a gasoline tanker
blasts into the plant at high speed. The plant is
saved by Mike's efforts and he's recruited as an unlikely,
last-ditch crisis troubleshooter by an unnamed govt. agency.
He's haunted by visions of his late wife, and still pretty
much crazy. Feel any safer?

The Pilot describes Mike Hillimfeldt's response to the initial attempt to destroy the Nuclear Sands Nuclear Power Plant

Episode 2 "The Day of Unwanted Love" follows the love life of Beatrice the Waitress, with performances by her band, as a tortoise-shelled nerd from the engineers' convention falls for her...umm,  where is the lost waste from the power plant being dumped?
